Paul Knighton's guide to Caldwell, Idaho

Things to Do in Caldwell, Idaho

Caldwell is small enough to feel friendly and big enough to stay busy: a downtown plaza that hosts events all year, museums and a historic depot, a wine trail at the edge of town, and parks, pools, and golf courses for the long Idaho days.

Attractions & activities

What to do in and around Caldwell

These are the places locals actually go, from the plaza downtown to the vineyards on the hills west of town. Hours and seasons vary, so confirm with each venue before you plan around it.

Indian Creek Plaza

The heart of downtown at 120 S Kimball Avenue. Year-round it hosts concerts, outdoor movies, food trucks, and community events; in summer there is a splash pad, and in winter the plaza becomes the Ice Skating Ribbon under 1.5 million-plus holiday lights.

The College of Idaho

The campus at 2112 Cleveland Boulevard is home to the Whittenberger Planetarium and the Orma J. Smith Museum of Natural History, both open to the public. Check each venue for current hours and showtimes.

Caldwell Train Depot

The historic 1906 depot at 701 Main Street houses the Depot Interpretive Center, with local history memorabilia and a miniature model railroad of turn-of-the-century Caldwell. Generally open weekdays; confirm hours before you go.

A local history museum at 1122 Main Street that tells the story of Caldwell and Canyon County. Stop in to see what changed, and what did not, since the railroad arrived in 1884.
