Nearby town · about 20 minutes from Caldwell
When you have seen the plaza and eaten your way down Arthur Street, Nampa is the natural next stop: a bigger, busier sibling about 20 minutes east on I-84, with a major arena, a nationally ranked farmers market, a top-rated air museum, and one of the best lake escapes in the Treasure Valley.
Why Nampa
Nampa is the largest city in Canyon County and the busiest town between Caldwell and Boise. Where Caldwell is a small downtown with a plaza at its heart, Nampa is spread out and event-driven: one of the Northwest's biggest indoor arenas, a farmers market that has drawn national praise, and a lakeside wildlife refuge that predates the state.
It makes an easy half-day or full-day trip. The drive is a straight shot east on I-84, and most of what you will want is either downtown or right along the highway corridor.

You can comfortably see the best of Nampa in a single day from Caldwell. Here is a loose rhythm that works, adjusted to whatever is actually open the day you go.
Start at the Nampa Farmers Market at Lloyd Square Park if it is market season, then grab a bagel at Sarah's or coffee at First & Second Coffee Co.
Spend the middle of the day at the Warhawk Air Museum near the Idaho Center, or walk off a lazy lunch at Lakeview Park's gardens and duck pond.
Head out to Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge for a hike or drive around Lake Lowell, watching for birds and deer along the shore.
Come back downtown for dinner at Brick 29 or Holy Cow, a pint at Crescent Brewery or Mother Earth, and a walk along the brick streets.
Map tip: downtown Nampa is small and walkable; the Idaho Center, the Warhawk Air Museum, and Lake Lowell are each short drives. Save the lakeside stop for the time of day with the light you like best.
